18. Write About a Random Word

A lot of times, when I'm bored, I'll take a word and write as much as I can about it. Usually I just stop when I get bored with the word. Here's an example:

Random Word: Objection

The first thing I think of when I hear objection is when someone says, "I object!" at a wedding. Of course that only happens in movies. I mean, it could happen in real life, I've just never heard of it. I also thing of meetings and if there is something that needs to be decided, like, what color to paint the new school bathroom. I imagine people saying, "Any objections?" Also, relating back to the wedding thing, I always think of the Shrek movie where he runs into the wedding and screams, "I OBJECT!"

That was a piece of raw writing you just read right there. No editing or anything.

Here are some random word generators:
Random Word Generator (Plus) - You can choose what type of word (noun, adjective, verb, etc.) and the complexity of the word (Common, Average, etc.)
Creative Random Word Generator - You can choose how many words you want (1-8 words).
Random Word Generator - Choose the length of the word, what letter it begins with, and how many words you would like to generate.
Random Word Generator With Definitions - You click on a button and it comes up with a random word and a definition.

Also, oneword.com gives you a new random word each day and you have a minute to write as much as you can about it. Then it gets posted into the community where everyone can read it. I liked it for about a day, but I always have a lot going on so I didn't have time to do it.

Have a random word rant? Post it in the comments!

17. Have a Poke War

I am one of those really weird people that loves poke wars. I think it's because I can never lose. If I'm really bored I'll sit there for 10 minutes going back and forth with one of my friends. It's kind of sad really. Well this has been a short post. Blah, blah, blah, blah. Ok. I'm done.

Anyone have photos of their own poke wars?

16. Watch Thor

I have a very hard time finding good movies on Netflix that I haven't already watched before. Especially a good action movie. So when I watched Thor the other night, I was crossing my fingers that it would turn out to be a good movie and it did.

My Rating: 4.5 stars
Netflix Rating: 4.1 stars

IMDb Plot Summary: The warrior Thor (Hemsworth) is cast out of the fantastic realm of Asgard by his father Odin (Hopkins) for his arrogance and sent to Earth to live among humans. Falling in love with scientist Jane Foster (Portman) teaches Thor much-needed lessons, and his new-found strength comes into play as a villain from his homeland sends dark forces toward Earth.

The movie was pretty good, but sometimes the plot was very predictable and the action scenes were not as intense as I had hoped they would be.

Favorite Character: Loki (Tom Hiddleston) is my favorite character only because he was the most interesting. You could never really figure out whether he was evil or not. Also, there was always more to his back story than thought.

Overall it's definitely a movie you should watch when you have a chance.

What did you think of the movie Thor?

15. Check Out Quickie Links

Check out my new Quickie Links tab! I'll try to update it as much as possible. It will be just random links to different things, but hopefully it will help you pass the time. This has been a really short post, I know. Keep an eye out for a movie review coming up!

If you have any interesting links please comment with them. Thanks! :)

14. Read the Latest Headlines

There's always something going on in the world. By knowing what's going on around the globe, you can impress your friends later. Well, maybe it wouldn't impress your friends unless you found something weird and unusual, but the news is interesting! It is our job to stay informed! I mean you don't even have to read the article! You can just look at the headline and the pictures. Reading the first paragraph is also good, since that paragraph usually summarizes the whole article. Some good news websites are:
CNN
USA Today

I can't think of anymore... Well if you have any news websites, or any interesting articles, comment!

13. Browse Photography

I love photography and I spend a lot of time trying to find beautiful photos on StumbleUpon. Here are some of my favorites:

Here is a beautiful picture of the Northern Lights.

This is a breathtaking photo of a waterfall coming over a ridge into a pool of water.

I love this photo because there is so much activity, yet it is so quiet.

This photo beautifully captures the lightening flash in the distance.

The coolest photo of a bubble popping! It is currently the background on my iPod.

Beautiful photo in which the flower looks like the sun.

I love this photo with the giraffe perfectly silhouetted against the sky and the rays of light shining through the clouds. Absolutely beautiful.

This photo is amazing. I love all the pink blossoms.

Tell me what you think about these photos and which photos you think are absolutely amazing. I'll keep looking for more photos. :)

12. Watch Cute Animal Videos

This is one of my favorite things to do in my free time. The little faces of those kitties and puppies just make your heart want to melt!

Now I know it's not Christmas anymore, but this 12 Days of Christmas video is adorable! Cute animals singing? What could be better?

So I was looking through my YouTube feed the other day and I found a video that TheEllenShow had liked. I clicked on it and I find myself looking at a video of a kitten trying to steal a dog's tongue. So cute!

This one is one of my all time favorites. The Ultimate Dog Tease. It's a pretty famous video, so you may have heard of it. Also, it's not so much a cute video as it is a funny one.

Alright, one last one. This one is sure to make your heart melt. I mean, what's cuter than a sleeping puppy?

What's your favorite cute animal video?

11. Read Michael Grant's Biographies

Funniest. Things. Ever. Here is a quote from the biography on his website: "Who is Michael Grant? He's this old dude. Bald. Out of shape. Kind of cranky." He then goes on for about two more paragraphs making fun of himself. Maybe it's just me. Maybe people are going to read this blog post, click on the link to this guy's biography, read it, and then be like, "I don't know what this girl's getting so worked up about!" Doesn't matter. I think he's HIL-arious.

10. Listen to Music

We all listen to music all the time. We all have music on our computers, our iPods, or our phones; we bring it with us wherever we go. But spending all that money on music on iTunes can make you go broke. So I have a few tips on how to listen to music without going broke.
My first tip is Pandora. Pandora is one of my favorite websites to go to to listen to music. When you create an account on it, it asks you to put in a song. (I would put in my favorite song, but that's just me.) After that, Pandora will automatically start playing a song. You can like and dislike songs and Pandora will adjust accordingly. You can also create different stations using different songs. And if you want to listen to Pandora on the go, they have an app!
Be on the lookout for free downloads. I know Seventeen! recently had free song downloads available (sadly there was only 1,000 downloads available per song and I didn't manage to get to it in time). YouTube! Artists usually have their songs up on it and it's not hard to make an account and a playlist of your favorite songs. The only things is that if you have slow internet, your songs will take forever to load and/or they'll be really choppy. On the upside though it's free and you can choose exactly what songs you want to listen to unlike Pandora.
 Hope this was helpful! :)

9. Play Doodle Jump or Fruit Ninja

These are my favorite games to play on my iPod. Of course, you can also play them on other devices too including the Blackberry and the Kindle Fire. For those of you who aren't familiar with these games, they are extremely fun and addictive.

In Doodle Jump you are a little character named Doodle who jumps on platforms. The higher you jump up the platforms the better score you get. Your objective is to get the highest score you can before you either miss a platform, jump into a monster, get abducted by a UFO, or get sucked into a black hole. Also, Doodle Jump has a multiplayer option (this may be only on the iPod touch), where you get to race other players to the finish line. Another great thing about Doodle Jump is that it's every changing. There's always new themes coming out, so you never get bored.

In Fruit Ninja you slice fruit. It's not like you're cooking or anything. You get points for the number of fruits you slice. There are four different modes:
Classic: You slice fruit until you miss three of them or you slice a bomb. DON'T slice the bombs. Also, if you miss a fruit, every time you get 100 points, the number of fruits you missed goes down one.
Arcade: You have 60 seconds to hit as many fruits as you can. There are also special bananas that if you hit, you either get a multiplier, a fruit frenzy, or the fruit slows down so you can get all of it. If you hit the bombs in this mode, you lose 10 points.
Zen: In this mode you have 1 minute 30 seconds to hit as many fruit as you can without the worry of bombs. This is a good opportunity to practice getting combos.
Multiplayer: I'm not entirely sure how this mode works as I have never played it before. I'm pretty sure though that you are side by side (online) trying to hit more fruit than the other.
Note: All these modes are only available if you buy Fruit Ninja. Fruit Ninja Lite only has Classic mode.

Haven't convinced you? Both apps are rated 4 1/2 stars. Why wouldn't you buy them?

8. Go to Stumble Upon

This website is the ultimate web-browsing tool. When you sign up for an account, you tell Stumble Upon some of your interests, choosing from the interests that they list there. After that, Stumble Upon takes one of your interests and brings you to a webpage relating to that interest. There will also be a toolbar at the top of your webpage. The toolbar lets you like or dislike a page, search another interest, or change what interest you want to Stumble Upon. Well, that's it! And sorry for not getting a post out for a while.

7. Research Your Astrological Sign

What sign are you? Capricorn? Pisces? Virgo? If you don't know, go look it up! Even if you don't believe in all that astrology stuff, it's kind of fun to look at. Yahoo! is good place to look at horoscopes. Here is the link. Also Horoscope.com has detailed information on it. I didn't get to look at it much though because a giant popup came out and it wouldn't let me close it. Very frustrating.

6. African Capitals

Do you know all the African capitals? If the answer is yes, then I dare you to go to this link and all the capitals correct first try. Then comment below saying DONE! with the number of seconds it took you. Remember to do ALL of Africa.

If you don't know the African capitals, no problem, just practice until you get it and then comment below with the number of tries and number of seconds it took you to get that one hundred percent. I'm going to be working on this too and I'll update this post when I get all of them right. The best I've gotten so far is 98% because I got one wrong. ONE! Oh, well. Next time.

Have fun, don't cheat, and remember to do ALL of Africa!

Update: WOOT, WOOT! I got all of Africa! Now beat my time: 112 secs

5. Make Your Own Blog

That is, if you don't already have one. Don't know what to write about? Well what's the first thing that comes to your mind? The first thing that comes to my mind is bananas. I don't really know why, I don't even particularly like bananas that much and I definitely can't spell it, but it's the first thing that comes to my mind. Usually pickles come to my mind first though...

Anyways the great thing about the internet is that nobody has to know you were the one to write the post and the chances that someone you know will come across your blog, are not very likely unless your blog suddenly became extremely popular.

Recommendation though: use paragraphs and good grammar. It is very tiring on the eyes to have to read a post that is one long sentence with uncapitalized is (by the way, that is not the word "is"). Also, don't use chat/text speak. It looks so unprofessional.

I was thinking about making a blog solely devoted to the top ten Yahoo! searches. Tell me what you think about that, this post, and also what posts you'd like to see in the future.

4. Eat a Bagel and Drink Some Tea

More specifically, eat a cinnamon raisin bagel with cream cheese, drink some Minty Mint tea, and eat a shortbread cookie. If you didn't guess already, that's what I'm eating right now and all I can say is... shortbread cookies are amazing! So is tea. And bagels are pretty awesome too. But I mean shortbread cookies! They're just so...yummy. I probably shouldn't tell you to go eat when you're bored, but you have to try shortbread cookies!

Favorite foods anybody?

3. Go on Stupid, Pointless Game Websites

I quite enjoy these. There's nothing better than spending your life on pointless game websites. The one I go on all the time is Shockwave. Another one is Addicting Games. You can also just look up online games.

What are some of your favorite online games/game websites? Comment!

2. Read

You don't like reading you say? I absolutely LOVE it! Am I a book nerd? Yes. A nerd? In a way, but I'm definitely not the kind you see in movies or read about in books with tucked in shirts and big glasses with lenses so thick that... I don't even know. Couldn't find a good simile for that one. Anyways, getting off topic here. Reading. Right. Well here's a list of some of my personal favorites:
  1. Gone - Everybody over the age of fourteen disappears. For those of you who didn't figure it out already, everybody fifteen and over disappears. Am I too demeaning for you? Sorry. Anyways (I use that word a lot), this is the first book in it's series. The second book is Hunger, which I'm reading right now, and is just as good so far.
  2. The Grimm Legacy - Just read it. If I tell you about it, you might think it's stupid. And anyways, you can copy and paste the book title into your search bar and press enter if you really want to know what it's about.
  3. The True Meaning of Smekday - It's about an alien invasion. I'm not one to go into depth about books because I think it completely ruins them. So that's all I'm going to say.
I would also put The Hunger Games on here, but I think most people have already read those books. If you haven't read those books READ THEM. Do NOT wait until the movie comes out. Read them IMMEDIATELY.
If you have read any of the books above, please comment on this post about what you think of them. Also, comment and tell us about your favorite books. OK. I'm done.

P.S. If you're wondering why this post is #2, read the description under the title.
